In a free, 30-minute video meeting, we will learn about your child, family and goals. We will also share key information about working with Good with Words Speech Pathology. A number of documents (including a service agreement) will be discussed with you during this appointment. Should you wish to work with us you can sign commencement documents during or after this initial meeting.
In your child’s first few sessions at Good with Words Speech Pathology, we will gain an understanding of his or her current communication skills, and set goals to guide your work with us. Some children may require a communication assessment to identify the best therapy supports for them while others require no additional assessment before beginning work with us. It is essential that in your child’s early sessions we develop goals for our work together. This is needed to help your child achieve real and measurable improvements in their communication skills.
Therapy sessions will be designed with your child and family in mind, and will work to achieve your child and family goals.
All sessions begin by reviewing your child’s progress since the last visit with you and confirming the goals for that day’s session.
Sessions can take place in the clinic, or at home, school or childcare depending on your goals and preferences.
We will use a play-based approach to keep your child engaged and help him or her learn best. Caregivers are expected to participate actively in therapy visits and to engage in practice activities in between therapy visits to build your child’s skills.
All therapy visits that happen at school or childcare will occur in the classroom and will help your child participate in that environment. We will develop a plan for communicating about school and childcare visits with you so that we can work effectively towards therapy goals together.
